George Miller writes and directs this first instalment of the famous dystopian action thriller series. Set in a future where civil order is unravelling due to an oil shortage and the destruction of the natural world, police officer Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson) is becoming disillusioned with the uphill battle of his job in what is becoming a lawless society. When one of Max's colleagues is killed by Nightrider (Vince Gil), a member of an unhinged motorcycle gang, Max successfully pursues him, but the fallout only brings the danger close to home. About to quit policing for good, a tragic event forces Max to get behind the wheel of the V8-powered Pursuit Special and take matters into his own hands...
