The author gave up a brilliant medical career to take care of orphans in the Warsaw Ghetto. Both Jewish and Gentile friends tried to save him but he stayed with the children to the end. This grimly inspiring diary is accompanied by a new introduction by Betty Jean Lifton who wrote the author's biography.
