Operation Totalize, 1944 : the Allied drive South from Caen
Hart, S. (Stephen), 1968-2016
Books
In Operation Totalize, the II Canadian Corps launched an attack from its positions south of Caen, striking south-southeast toward the high ground that dominated the town of Falaise and the key west-east lateral road that ran through it. The initial break-in achieved rapid success; however, despite this swift initial progress Totalize did not subsequently secure a decisive operational-level victory. Featuring full colour artwork, archival photographs and detailed maps, this book offers a comprehensive analysis of the most innovative Allied offensive of the Normandy campaign, which, had it been successful, might have prevented the Germans from extracting themselves from the Falaise pocket - effectively crippling their forces in Western Europe and possibly bringing about an earlier end to the war in Europe.
