The sky over Lima

Gómez Bárcena, Juan, 1984-2017
Books
Peru, 1904. Carlos and Jose are two foppish young men who spend their days hiding their upper class roots by practicing at being poets. When, bored one day, they decide on a whim to write to their poetic idol Juan Ramón Jimenez in the hope of starting a correspondence, they do so under a pseudonym, believing they are more likely to get a response if they write as a young woman. Signing the letter in the name of twenty-year-old Georgina Hubner, they receive a reply and become the talk of their literary circle. But when they convince themselves they can inspire Jimenez, through their increasingly intimate letters, to write a great love poem, the correspondence takes a more sinister, tragic turn.
