Widely regarded as masterpiece, this is Robert Bresson's austere, minimalist interpretation of the Arthurian legend with all the romance and spectacle stripped away to reveal instead the knights' pride, jealousies, cruelty, greed and rivalries. The Knighs of the Round Table return to King Arthur's Court after a long and failed quest to find the Holy Grail. Disillusioined and motivated only by the pursuit of their own desires, they mope around, unsure of their role or even identity as Lancelot continues his relationship with Guinevere.
