The book essentially covers the centre of London to include familiar places and sights such as Regent Street, Covent Garden and the Embankment. Still, many of the photographs, which date from Victorian times to the 1950s, have not previously been published, so this is every bit a book for Londoners as much as for visitors. The author's picture captions are succinct but full of fascinating and maybe lesser-known bits of information. A section about monuments includes war memorials and some interesting photos of London during the Second World War, thanks to an anonymous US serviceman's album.
