Italian writer-director Alice Rohrwacher's debut feature is a coming-of-age drama set in small-town Southern Italy. Introverted 13-year-old Marta (Yle Vianello) has recently moved back to Calabria with her mother, Rita (Anita Caprioli), and older sister after a ten-year spell in Switzerland. As she prepares for her confirmation, she tests the confines placed upon her by the hypocrisies of the Catholic church and the quiet frustration of small-town life.
